What is the Step Into HealthCare Programme?

The Step Into HealthCare Programme is a free employment programme for young people with care experience aged 16 to 30 in London. Our goal is to empower young people providing comprehensive one-on-one mentoring, access to digital skills training, and employability support to help them secure a meaningful career within the NHS and the broader digital workforce.

How is the Step Into HealthCare Programme Delivered?

The programme is delivered in a blended format, incorporating both online and in-person components. Young people can engage with the programme at their own pace. A dedicated career mentor will tailor the support and schedule around needs and circumstances.

The Step Into HealthCare Programme is structured and module-based, featuring a comprehensive curriculum that covers essential skills and knowledge areas. Key components of the programme include:

    • Customised support to guide participants through their journey towards employment.

    • Regular check-ins and progress reviews tailored to individual goals.

  • Continuous access to our e-learning platform, allowing young people to develop skills and knowledge at their own pace.

    • Employability 101:Digital Marketing Intro: Basics of online marketing strategies.

    • Intro to Coding: A foundational understanding of coding and its applications.

    • Entrepreneurship Basics: Skills and knowledge for those interested in self-employment.

    • Access to work placements within NHS settings through the Health & Care Jobs hub.

    • Ongoing support to help secure an interview and a potential role within the NHS.

    • We offer guaranteed interviews subject to meeting certain conditions

    • Transport Support: Coverage of transport costs associated with training events and interviews.

    • In-work Support: Ongoing assistance to ensure participants settle in their new role.

    • Material Support: Provision of necessary resources, including Photo ID and interview clothing.

Our 6-step journey is tailored to support you every step of the way:

  • You can easily refer yourself or have a professional refer you to our program by using the buttons at the top of this page.

  • A career mentor will be in touch to discuss the referral and answer any questions. We'll work together to understand your goals and objectives.

  • We will arrange a sign-up appointment to explain the programme in detail. This can be done over the phone, in person, or via a teams call.

  • Participants will be assigned a dedicated mentor who will create a personalised action plan. The mentor will provide guidance on skill-building, confidence-building, and industry insights. Participants gain access to our menu of opportunities, including digital skills training, e-learning, employability training, and a bursary to support their journey.

  • Participants will gain access to our Health & Care Jobs hub and ongoing support to help you secure an interview and potential role within the NHS.

  • Mentors will stay in touch to support as participants settle into their new role, address any challenges, and reflect on their progress to ensure they’re successful in their new career.
